Faculty PDD | Course Review Design for a Graduate Online Nursing Program
Literature abounds on course design and creation of quality distance education. But most available curriculum evaluation literature focuses on student evaluations while literature for distance education focuses primarily on inclusion of key course material and accessibility. What if neither approach appropriately evaluates post-creation course quality, effectiveness, and delivery, particularly for distance education?
SU's graduate nursing department thoughtfully evaluated course assessment and continuous improvement approaches to graduate nursing education in the context of distance learning and accreditation standards. The result is a Graduate Curriculum Committee (GCC) approved Course Review form and process designed to be completed every 3 years.
- Evaluate the difference between course design and course review.
- Discuss current course evaluation and review practices.
- Describe a departmental approach to designing and evaluating a course review form and process.
- Showcase a completed Course Review.
- Consider how non-nursing, non-graduate, and non-online courses could incorporate similar or unique approaches to achieve teaching excellence.
