AI Webinar Series: Climate Change, AI, & Campuses
Join TTL and the AI task force to view some webinars relating to AI in higher education. These webinars are recorded by the AAC&U and have been made available thanks to a team of SU faculty and staff participating in their Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum. The first hour of our meeting will involve watching a selected webinar recording together, and the last 30 minutes will be for group discussion. We look forward to learning together with you!
This week's webinar is in honor of Earth Day! Description below:
How will colleges and universities consider AI in light of climate change? In this presentation, we start by examining two schools of thought. In one, AI represents a way for campuses to better prepare for global warming by assisting in data analysis and generating ideas for strategic action, offering a net positive. In contrast, another view urges higher education to reduce its AI use because of its imposing electric and water consumption, presenting a net negative. This division presents academics with a major decision point. Next, we explore connections between this divide and other post-secondary issues and trends, including enrollment changes, questions of workforce development, and policy.
