WWNJC: Nature Journal a River

Join TTL for a viewing party of the seventh annual online Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference! We'll provide nature journals, pencils, and snacks. No previous experience is necessary, but if you are new to nature journaling, you may want to review the basics: John Muir Laws Get Started with Nature Journaling
Nature journaling is a great way to build observational skills, connect with the natural beauty around us, and enjoy making images, words, and numbers in the company of community. All faculty, staff, and students are invited!
Session description
Rivers are biodiverse, dynamic, beautiful, and important parts of our natural world. Based on his new book, How to Draw a River, artist, educator, and author Alex Boon will show you how to start a nature journaling project focused around your local river. Alex will describe approaches to nature journaling a river including mapping, river phenology wheels, nature journaling river species, and looking at the whole river through various digital approaches. Then he will share some exercises based on a small river in Wales including (1) drawing water physics—using graphite or fineliner lines to help depict moving water and then (2) adding color—drawing water in colored pencil.
