Teaching with Writing in the Disciplines (Application Deadline)
Are you interested in helping your students become better disciplinary learners, thinkers, and writers? Writing in the Disciplines (WID) is a pedagogical approach that helps students learn and practice the communicative conventions of a particular discipline so they can write clearly and effectively on specific subject matter for specific audiences.
This spring, we invite undergraduate faculty from all disciplines to join our inaugural cohort of “Teaching with Writing in the Disciplines.” Led by Dr. Jon Udelson, Associate Professor of English, six faculty members will have the opportunity to redesign a 300-level course using WID theory and strategies in a series of four workshops. Cohort members will be eligible to receive stipends after completing the spring workshops, and again after implementing their WID assignments and attending two assessment meetings in Fall 2025.
Why WID Your Course? WID courses have been shown to help students develop a writing practice across all areas of their college curricula, further engage with the subject matter of their courses, prepare them for the disciplinary writing they might do in graduate school or in the workforce, and envision themselves as disciplinary scholars and professionals. In addition, data suggests that WID programs directly contribute to retention, persistence, and the overall academic success of students. For more information about Writing in the Disciplines, visit the WAC Clearinghouse.
For more information and to apply, please fill out the application form. (No need to register in Corsizio).
The deadline for applications is Wednesday, January 15th. If you have any questions, please email Jon Udelson at judelson@su.edu.
