Spring 2022 Lifelong Learning Series: History of Black Education in the US

Tue, Feb 22, 2022, 12:00 – 1:00 PM EST
Huntsberry Dining Room

TTL is excited to announce our new Lifelong Learning Series. Each month, we will host a lunch and learn on a topic relevant to that month’s themes. In 2022, the series will focus on the history of education from a variety of perspectives. Meet us in the Allen Dining Hall on the last Tuesday of every month from 12-1pm for lunch on us and a chance to learn more about education history and how it affects us all as educators today.

February: History of Black Education

In observance of Black History Month, TTL is offering a lunch & learn with Jess Clawson on Black education history in the US. Jess will give a brief talk on the history of Black education with plenty of opportunity for discussion.

This discussion will focus on the ways Black communities have historically shaped the entire field of education (like creating a public school system in the south where none existed) and the ways integration attempts, such as they were, affected and continue to affect Black communities. Historians of education have demonstrated that understanding the nuances of Black education history can help us focus our antiracism work in educational spaces today.
